I love the transition......great shots!
Those are such beautiful trees. If the "tulip poplar" is the same kind of poplar that we have here. We call the ones here "poplar" and they grow to a huge size especially along our creeks and rivers. They have mottled white and gray bark.
I have thought about doing this to something, like a bug or a bear but we don't have bears and the bugs are not very cooperative and none ever come back for me to take a second shot.
Good job! I have done this recently on my blog as well, and I just love to see the transitions between seasons.

My favorite is the last photo with the trees reaching up into the blue sky. Looks like they have little arms moving about.
